Manchester United was forced to use all their 3 allowed substitution in the first half amid injuries to Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard. While for Liverpool, Roberto Firmino was replaced by Daniel Sturridge. It was the most unusual game you would have watched this season.

Manchester United face Crystal Palace on Wednesday at Selhurst Park and could be without Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial. Marcus Rashford could also miss the trip to Selhurst Park with a knock. United lack personnel in attack and midfield and would require reinforcements. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will turn his attention to the youth academy, in hope to find the next Marcus Rashford, who burst into the scene amid one such injury crisis during the 2015/16 season.

Here are 3 prospects who could step up for Manchester United during this injury-stricken period.

#1 Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has been brilliant for Manchester United’s U-18 side.

The 17-year old has scored 13 goals in 12 games for the under-18 side, providing 4 assists. Last season, he scored 16 goals in 18 games and provided 4 assists. He has also scored 5 goals in 5 games in the UEFA Youth League.

He is calm in front of the goal and is a great finisher of the ball. He is expected to follow the footsteps of Marcus Rashford and is one of the most exciting prospect United have in years. He could be given a chance to prove his mettle amid injuries to Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata.

#2 Tahith Chong

Manchester United have been crying out for a right-winger since the departure of Nani. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard share that position among them, but they both like to play more centrally which leaves United isolated on that right-hand side.

With both players injured, Tahith Chong will have the opportunity to make a statement. He’s a natural left-footer who plays as a right-winger for the U-23 side. He has 5 goals in 14 games in Premier League’s Second Division. He is quick and can exploit that right-wing perfectly. He played for the first team against Reading in the FA Cup. He could be the one who can excite the Old Trafford faithful for years to come.

#3 Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes is Manchester United’s youngest player to play for the first team since Duncan Edwards. He made his debut in the 2016/17 season against Crystal Palace.

The 18-year old has played just 2 games for the first team, but has been playing very well for the youth sides. The attacking Midfielder has bagged 5 goals and 2 assist in 13 games in Premier League 2 and has scored once in the UEFA Youth League. With Manchester United lacking personnel in the midfield area, Angel Gomes could be called upon by the manager.
