Halo Infinite was first released in December 2021, with its free-to-play multiplayer mode entering early access in mid-November. After years of delays and development issues, the game launched to positive critical and fan reception, despite being the subject of some controversies around its launch content. In the months leading up to its release, 343 Industries made very clear that the launch of Halo Infinite was to be the first step in a 10-year content plan similar to ex-Halo developer Bungie’s work on its Destiny franchise.

While the developer often used this defense in response to fan backlash regarding major modes such as Forge and campaign co-op being absent from launch, it was also implied many times that this would also apply to story content. Despite this, 343 never officially confirmed that Halo Infinite would receive post-launch story DLC, which left many fans frustrated upon finishing the game’s main campaign which implies that there is more to Master Chief and The Weapon’s story yet to come.

It appears in a job listing for a writing director posted in January 2022, 343 Industries advertised a position centered around creating new stories for Halo Infinite to be used in the game’s multiplayer. This included adding lore and creating new narratives within the game going forward, referred to as “Seasonal story content,” implying that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer modes could be seeing a more narrative influence in the coming months and years.

While this doesn’t directly confirm story DLC regarding Master Chief and his companions, a trademark filed following the game’s release titled “Halo: The Endless,” in tandem with this information, could imply that 343 Industries is very likely planning to update Halo Infinite with consistent narrative content to flesh out the game’s universe and storyline. Given that the next mainline entry in the series could be up to 10 years away and the narrative introduced in Infinite feels far from finished, it seems like only a matter of time until fans see a more concrete look at upcoming story content.
